Herbs

Herbs have long been sought and cultivated for their many uses. Their applications are many.

Mundane Herbs

Mundane herbs can be found and used as they would be anywhere. They can soothe a stomach ache, ease soreness, soothe burns, and season food.

Voynichian Herbs

Voynichian herbs, sometimes called crpytoflora, may be used to make a variety of powerful sub- stances. Apart from their use in alchemy, there are some with more direct uses.

Black Nightblossom

Black Nightblossom can only be found or harvested from midnight to two in the morning in complete darkness on a moonless night, that being the only time it sends up a shoot and flowers.

  • Uses: The juices used to produce this sudden turgidity and extrude the plant full- grown from the soil happen to be a deadly poison, which, when it enters a crea- ture’s bloodstream, deals 2 damage levels at the end of ten seconds (ten rounds) of metabolism unless the victim passes a general health roll at -4. It may be applied to the edge of a blade and thus introduced to the bloodstream of the victim.
  • Harvesting: To locate Black Nightblossom, you must be at the edge of a woodland between midnight and two in the morning on a moonless night without any light sources shining on the area, however slight, and you must pass a perception roll at -5.

Carriage Whip

  • Uses: Carriage Whip and Thrupence are used to enrich peat by simply rubbing them together for an extended span of time, 4 hours being sufficient, and then allowing the mixture to sit in an air-tight vat for a week.
  • Harvesting: Carriage Whip is most easily bought dried, for 1 pound per quarter ounce (the amount sufficient to enrich peat), from any herbal supplies store, but can be found fresh with a successful perception roll whilst in any temperate forest, by checking the undersides of leaves for the telltale residue left by the vines retracting into the branches they infect.

Enriched Peat

  • Uses: Encriched peat is the primary fuel for the creation of steam power.
  • Creating: Carriage Whip and Thrupence are used to enrich peat by simply rubbing them together for an extended span of time, 4 hours being sufficient, and then al- lowing the mixture to sit in an air-tight vat for a week. 50 enriched peat tablets are made from one quarter once of Carriage Whip, a teaspoon of Thrupence buds, and a a cubic yard of peat (which costs £100 in most areas, but a mere £25 in Scotland).

Faerienip

  • Uses: Faerienip is psychoactive in Faeries. It renders Faeries even more giggly and incoherent than they naturally are. They are often willing to bargain in exchange for some of this colorful herb.
  • Harvesting: Found in dense woodlands, generally near ferns and in gullies. Search at -2.

Soothing Rumplewort

Soothing Rumplewort is found growing on the underside of toadstools, and especially on those that form faerie rings.

  • Uses: Chewing the brown-green mossy growth allows you to regain 4 damage levels over a deep, 12-hour sleep from which you will not awaken until the effect has passed.
  • Harvesting: Soothing Rumplewort requires a moist area and a successful perception roll at -2.

Thrupence

  • Uses: Carriage Whip and Thrupence are used to enrich peat by simply rubbing them together for an extended span of time, 4 hours being sufficient, and then allowing the mixture to sit in an air-tight vat for a week.
  • Harvesting: Thrupence is easily cultivated, for it requires an anoxic and lightless environment to grow, and, so, can be grown inside of a bottle given a week to allow harvestable growth and a successful intellect roll.
